DM Hall sponsors Stonehaven swimmers

15:18 0

DM Hall, one of Scotlands leading independent firms of Chartered Surveyors, has agreed to sponsor Stonehaven Amateur Swimming Club, the highly successful competitive swimming club which serves the communities of Stonehaven and Mearns.

Stonehaven ASC, which is based at Stonehaven Leisure Centre and has around 70 members ranging in age from 7 to 17, recently saw one of its swimmers, Kieran Preston, win a bronze medal at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa.

Based at Stonehaven Leisure Centre, it also conducts training sessions at Aberdeen Sports Village, Robert Gordons University and Portlethen swimming pool.

In return for its financial support, DM Hall will see its brand logo reproduced on the clubs tee shirts, newsletter and Facebook page.

Stuart Johnston, commercial partner at DM Hall's Aberdeen office, said: "We see our sponsorship of Stonehaven ASC accomplishing two objectives: first, we strongly support the concept of engagement with communities in all the towns and cities of Scotland in which we have a presence, and, second, we value the opportunity to raise the profile of the DM Hall brand amongst the large number of families participating in competitive swimming across Aberdeenshire and the north east.

David Watt, Chairperson at Stonehaven ASC, said: We greatly welcome support from DM Hall in helping us to make our swimming club one of the most innovative in the region. Swimming is a fantastic sport for youngsters and DM Hall should be applauded for its contribution to helping us to offer sporting opportunities for young people now and in the future.

Stonehaven Featured on New Bucket List

New ‘Bucket List’ Road Trip Created as UK & Ireland’s Answer to Route 66

An estimated 200,000 people travel from across America and the world every year to drive all or part of the iconic Route 66 (1) stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles.
The route has great historical and cultural significance, forming part of a ‘bucket list’ for many people, and ranked by Britons in the top 10 of ‘things to do before you die’ (2)
To help people explore the UK & Ireland, Jurys Inns Hotels have created a new road trip to go onto the bucket list… introducing ‘Route 57’ – a drive across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland with 57 must-see destinations along the way, of similar mileage and drive-time to Route 66.
The route is made up of ten shorter road trips to allow people to do part or all of the route at their leisure, in any order, all at once or gradually.
Jurys Inn Hotels hope to see it turn into a bucket list item, boosting local tourism with people travelling from home and abroad for the drive, just like with Route 66.
See Route 57 at jurysinns.com/route57-roadtrips, complete with pictures and descriptions of all 57 destinations and a map at the end for journey planning.

It's tempting to think that here, in this quiet corner of Northeast Scotland, people can go about their business more or less unwatched by the rest of the world. Far from it! No sooner the story about Aberdeenshire's idea of removing a banner from the Carron Fish Bar hailing it as the “Birth Place of the World Famous Deep Fried Mars Bar“ hit national headlines last week, it also found its way into Irish papers. In fact, in less than two days it travelled around the globe.

The story was covered by several Australian papers. The Sydney Daily Telegraph even dubbed it “Fried Mars Bar Brouhaha“. A South African news site summarised the events as  “Home of deep-fried Mars bar battered“. CNBC featured the story by asking “Is this the end of Scotland's deep-fried Mars Bar?“. An Indian food lovers' website published an opinion piece titled “In Defence of the Deep-Fried Mars Bar“. A columnist at 'The Times of Oman' took the story to yet another level by firmly taking Aberdeenshire Council's side and presenting their action as an attempt to distance themselves from the promotion of unhealthy snacks and from the image of Scots as an army of fatties fatefully addicted to all things deep-fried. Even the online service of travel guide Lonely Planet had its say by informing readers about the banner incident.

While Aberdeenshire Council's request to remove the advert was intended to enhance the appearance of Stonehaven, the effect has been global publicity for the Carron Fish Bar and the town itself. It wouldn't come as a surprise if even more visitors flocked to Stonehaven now in order of taking a look at the controversial banner and the chip shop which is now well and truly world-famous.

Stonehaven boutique "My Beautiful Caravan" has had an outstanding first year in business.

10:06 0
The quirky gift and vintage shop, which opened in March 2014, recently celebrated its 1st birthday after achieving great things in those first 12 months.  The tiny shop which many thought would not do well (other businesses locally are floundering and 3 closed last week) has astonished the community by surviving and thriving.  Achievements include tripling projected turnover, employing four permanent staff and proudly supporting many local community projects and charities.

The cherry on the cake came when they were announced last month as one of only 3 finalists in the prestigious Trend Life with Style Awards 2015 in the category "Best New Business".   The Awards will be held on 18 June at the Ardoe House in Aberdeen.

The shop will launch online trading later in the year.
